The over 21 hour marathon speech Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas gave about the evils of Obamacare and the necessity of defunding it has, according to a September 25, 2013 story in World Net Daily, seem to have had the effect of melting the phones of three Republican senators seen by many as being insufficiently aggressive against the health care law.
Those senators are Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, and Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas. Neither senator will support Cruz’s defund effort. McCain even went so far as to take to the Senate floor to blast Cruz for his comparison of people who will not defund Obamacare to pre World War II appeasers.
It is unknown how many other senators are getting their phone lines clogged with angry constituents who are wondering why they are not following Cruz’s lead. This is not likely to endear the mandarins of the Senate to the junior senator from Texas. But, if they are smart, they will take note of Cruz’s ability to rouse the wrath of the voters and act accordingly.
