As one who has lived, was educated and worked in Texas off and on since 1976, this writer has seen many politicians come and go including three presidents from Texas (of both parties), the first woman governor, Ann Richards and the first woman United States Senator from Texas, Kay Bailey Hutchinson.
Texas has also been home to Third party and Libertarian Presidential candidates such as Ron Paul who served in the United States House of Representatives for nearly twenty three years and continues as an active political influence in his retirement.
Texas is also a hot bed for active Tea Party involvement and growth.
Texas indeed, has had a vast array of politicians and candidates all over the leadership spectrum but none has been more loved by Texans and other conservatives than Senator Ted Cruz.
Ted Cruz is definitely a man of integrity and principle, standing up for the right of the people and doing what Texans sent him to Washington to do.
Contrary to popular belief, Ted Cruz is not playing politics with his job as Senator.
While liberal Democrats and some Progressive Republicans (Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham) have called him everything from political terrorist, Tea Party radical and anarchist to Confederate rebel, Ted Cruz has stood firm.
Ted Cruz is to be commended for his boldness and firm stand against Obama-care in the recent battle of the budget and subsequent so called government shutdown.
Although, it's true that Senator Cruz had no choice but to cave in the end promising not to block the debt ceiling in order to put the government back to work, he definitely stood tall, forcing the American people to listen to the truth.
Many have said Senator Cruz’z filibuster was useless and to no avail only bringing attention to himself but the reality is that Senator Cruz along with Utah Senator Mike Lee brought the Obama-care debacle to the forefront of public attention; many people were forced to hear things concerning Obama-care they had never heard before and many were surprised.
While it’s true that the mainstream media tried tirelessly to make Ted Cruz along with House Republicans appear as the “great Satan” of political upheaval and the so called government shut down (which it was anything but), the reality is that these noble Republicans were persons of courage and conviction attempting to right a very leftist wrong.
At least Senator Ted Cruz is well liked and even adored by both the Texas Tea Party and most Texas Republicans as was demonstrated on his recent visit to Arlington,Texas where he received a fourteen minute standing ovation from a packed house of supporters.
Democrats, low information voters, progressive Republicans and mainstream media alike can attack this man all they want but it makes no difference; Senator Cruz follows in the same kind of statesmanship and loyalty to his constituency as the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Davy Crockett, Sam Houston and Ronald Reagan.
Senator Ted Cruz has chosen devotion to his state, country and those who elected him over traditional party politics.
The choice made by Senator Cruz might be unpopular for some but for many, it could be that he is just the man for our time.
Keep up the good work Senator and from one transplanted Texan to another, “Thanks”.
