Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas lost out to Pope Francis on being named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. But the American Spectator made him its Man of the Year in a December 19, 2013 article. The reason that he got this honor was his enthusiasm for opposing what the magazine considers bad policy.
Comparing Cruz to that other Texas icon, Sam Houston, the article ticked off a number of policies that he either blocked or opposed effectively, including gun control, intervention in Syria, immigration reform, drone strikes and, most especially, Obamacare.
“In the doing of actually representing his constituents — the citizens of Texas who have had it up to here with Washington shenanigans that are now costing them jobs, damaging their businesses and losing them their health care — Ted Cruz has established himself Houston-style as one of the nation’s most important — make that effective — Senators.”
It should be noted that this has occurred in only the first year of Cruz’s senatorial career. One therefore looks forward to what Cruz will do in the new year.
