The Post said Cruz handled each interruption calmly, pointing out that Obamacare is causing many to lose their jobs and their health care.
“You have health care, we should too!” protesters chanted.
“Thank you for sharing your views. You know, part of the First Amendment is about respecting others," Cruz said in response. “Number one, I agree with them. They should have health care and Obamacare is causing more and more people struggling to climb the economic ladder to lose their health care.”
But Cruz wasn't finished, telling the crowd that Obama's campaign arm is trying to gin up support for Obamacare by paying people to pretend the grassroots are on his side.
“Every time they’ve come to protest in Texas, they’ve sent a small group of people, and ya’ll have outnumbered them two, and three, and four to one," he said.
According to the Post, Cruz's town hall event was sponsored by the conservative Heritage Action for America, the advocacy arm of the Heritage Foundation.
Cruz, the Washington Post said, has become a "ringleader" in the effort to defund the massive health care law that is very unpopular despite Obama's efforts.
The law is also affecting employment, turning America into a nation of part-time workers, according to an article at Reuters.
"U.S. businesses are hiring at a robust rate," Reuters said. "The only problem is that three out of four of the nearly 1 million hires this year are part-time and many of the jobs are low-paid."
The reason, Reuters said, is Obamacare.
"Faltering economic growth at home and abroad and concern that President Barack Obama's signature health care law will drive up business costs are behind the wariness about taking on full-time staff, executives at staffing and payroll firms say," Lucia Mutikani wrote.
On Tuesday, the Atlanta Business Chronicle said that UPS is planning to remove some 15,000 spouses from its health care coverage because of Obamacare.
"Rising medical costs, 'combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,' UPS said in a memo to employees," Carla Caldwell wrote.
Stories like these have prompted Cruz and others to push for defunding Obamacare while funding the rest of the government, a move that moderate Republicans have not fully embraced.
But Cruz said that conservatives need to stand up and fight in order to win.
“What has to happen after that is we’ve got to do something that conservatives haven’t done in a long time,” he said Tuesday night. “We’ve got to stand up and win the argument.”
