Tech's recruiting coordinator joins Gailey in Buffalo

Giff Smith, Tech's recruiting coordinator and DL coach, has accepted a job as linebackers coach with the Buffalo Bills. In case you didn't already know, Buffalo's new coach is none other than Chan Gailey...the guy who is still collecting $1 million per year from Tech (thanks again, Dave Braine).

While many Tech fans will wail and gnash teeth over this move, remember that everyone is replaceable. Al Groh might have a guy or two who can bring the recruiting heat for Tech (remember that Groh recruited well at UVA) and Paul Johnson is always prepared to move forward. Besides, after Buffalo fires Gailey in 1 or 2 years (You don't think he'll succeed there, do you? Unless you think "succeed" means 8-8...) Smith might just be begging for his old job back. I hope Buffalo has a good field goal kicker and a great punter...they're gonna need them.

Anyway, good for Giff. He's a nice guy. NFL assistants make a lot more money than college recruiting coordinators, and I hear the NFL is something Giff really wanted. I'm also hearing a few names kicked around as possible replacements, but I can't confirm anything just yet.

This does not appear to have much, if any, effect on Tech's recruiting class, as recruits are indicating that they remain committed.
