Apr 16, 2011 – The Los Angeles Theatre Center will present El Placer de Nuestra Lengua (The Pleasure of Our Language/Tongue), a work spoken in Spanish with English supertitles, on April 30 and May 1 only. The play was created, written and directed by Ofelia Media and is presented by the Universidad de Guadalajara Department of Culture.
Much of the text of the show was compiled from fragments of love and erotic poems from dozens of celebrated authors, among them Nicolas Guillen, Frida Kahlo, Octavio Paz, Pablo Neruda, and Francisco de Quevedo, in addition to Medina’s original text.
The show features world music star Ruben Albarran (of Café Tacvba) and Medina herself in the leading roles. The rest of the cast is composed by Francesca Guillien, Victor Carpinteiro, Cesar Romero, Araceli Flores, Mariel Rodriguez, Mario Ivan Cervantes, Sarah Nichols, Sofia Olmos, Marcia Sandoval and choreographer Rafael Carlin.
El Placer the Nuestra Lengua includes lavish costumes, actors, singers, dancers, aerialists, and original music by Medina. It celebrates the sensuality of the Spanish language’s speech and literature. It is suggested for audiences 18 and older due to some nudity and erotic content.
The Los Angeles Theatre Center is located at 514 S. Spring St, Los Angeles CA, 90013. The show is scheduled on April 30 and May 1 at 2 pm and 8 pm. Admission is $35. Reservations and tickets at 866.811.4111 and http://www.thelatc.org
