This Friday the 15th, The Comedy Shrine in Aurora will be unveiling, or perhaps "undressing" it's new burlesque-style comedy show in a sneak preview, or maybe a "peek" preview. (Okay, no more puns.)
Originally scheduled to debut the 1st of March, production of The Comedy Shrine's Varietease has gone into overtime because of it's Vegas and burlesque choreography, comedic timing, and talent casting that scouted a wide variety of comedic, sexy, and coordinated players of the stage.
Auditions for the Shrine's "Baudy, Slightly Naughty Burlesque Variety Show" were held on Feb. 4th at the Atheneaum Theatre in Chicago. The show promises to be provocative, a little raunchy, edgy, spectacular, and above all -- funny.
Varietease is an adults only show with adult humor, language, and themes. The title "Varietease" is essentially the combining of Broadway and Las Vegas-like shows with the burlesque song and dance genre that was prevelent in Europe in the early 1800's and really boomed in America by the mid 1800's. The original Varietease was a documentary released in 1954 about popular American burlesque shows.
The Comedy Shrine is offering a promotional code to get 4 free tickets for this Friday's show at 10pm by calling 630-585-0300 with the promo code "Burlesque".
Also appearing at the Shrine this Friday and Saturday at 8pm is Chris Fonseca. Chris has been on the stand-up comedy circuit for over twenty years and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, HBO's The Loco Slam, PBS's Appear Who Is Joking, ABC's Yearly American Funny Honours, and The Latino Laugh Event. Chris does charitable events and work for cerebral palsy and other paraplegic condition organizations, as he himself was born with cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair.
The Comedy Shrine is located at 4034 Fox Valley Center Drive near the Westfield Fox Valley Mall. For tickets and other information about this Friday's and Saturday's shows, call 630-585-0300 or visit www.comedyshrine.com.
