Tear me to shreds: DIY a slashed t-shirt

Who is ready for the easiest DIY ever?!

The most current trend right now taking the world by storm is shredding + slashing.  (It's also the most fun).

Whether you're hoping to copy the looks from the Alex Wang runway or just needing to release some anger onto a T-shirt, this is the way to go.

  1. Look through images and decide where you want your incisions to be.
  2. Take a T-shirt and, using fabric scissors or a razor blade, begin cutting your slash.  You can either create just a line through the fabric or actually cut some of the fabric out if you want more skin to show.
  3. Repeat until you have the design you were going for.

Side Slash Dress, $48

Bear in mind that you may not like your first attempt at this.  But, that's the beauty of it-- the tee only costs a couple of bucks.  No matter how many attempts you go through, you'll still be saving thousands compared to the Rodarte version!

Gothic Slash Tunic, $50

Besides, even if you do mess up, it will still look fab.  The runway is all about that "not trying too hard" look.  You don't want your shirt to look precise.  The more inconsistency, the better!

Here's my dress version:

Experimenting is key.  So get ready to slash and burn.  Here are some gorgeous shredded tops I've found for inspiration:

Cut Out Skull Sweater, $80            Backed Slash Dress, $38

Slash Lycra Vest Top, $40             Vintage Slit Sleeves Dress, $9.99

I guarantee you'll get the hang of it in no time.  And, you'll have a runway top without a shred of evidence that you did it yourself!
