Score one for the little guys.
The JD Motorsports NASCAR Nationwide 01 team with driver Danny O’Quinn Jr. scored a victory Wednesday. This victory didn’t come on the track however.
The National Stock Car Racing Commission rescinded a penalty handed down by NASCAR to crew chief Randy Hood after the Nationwide event at Daytona.
In the post race inspection, NASCAR officials said that they found the transmission didn’t meet the minimum weight requirement of 80 pounds. They fined Hood $2500 as a result of the infraction.
The team appealed the penalty arguing that that the transmission and gear were a standard production design from an approved manufacturer, and that the method officials used to determine the minimum weight of the transmission assembly differed from the Rule Book.
The Commission agreed and rescinded the penalty.
