Team USA day 9 Sochi Paralympics: one more medal to total 18 for the games

On March 16th, the 9th and last day of competition at the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympic Games, Team USA picked up one more bronze medal in cross-country skiing. Team USA ends the games with a total of 18 Paralympic medals (two gold, seven silver, and nine bronze). While this puts them in 3rd place for the actual number of medals won, it puts them 8th overall in the ranked medal standings.

Alpine Skiing Update:

The women’s Giant Slalom took place today.

Women’s Giant Slalom – Visually Impaired: Staci Mannella placed 6th..
Women’s Giant Slalom – Standing: Allison Jones placed 4th. Melanie Schwartz placed 14th. Stephanie Jallen also competed but did not finish.
Women’s Giant Slalom – Sitting: Alana Nichols placed 4th. Laurie Stephens placed 6th.

Cross-Country Update:

The Men’s 10km and Women’s 5km took place today.

Men’s 10km – Sitting: Andrew Soule placed 9th. Daniel Cnossen placed 10th. Aaron Pike placed 14th. Sean Halsted placed 16th. Jeremy Wagner placed 22nd. Travis Dodson placed 23rd.
Women’s 5km – Sitting: Oksana Masters won bronze by placing 3rd. Tatyana McFadden placed 7th. Monica Bascio placed 16th. Beth Requist placed 19th.
Men’s 10km – Standing: Omar Bermejo placed 29th. John Oman placed 32nd..
Women’s 5km – Standing: No competitors from Team USA.
Men’s 10km – Visually Impaired: Jacob Adicoff placed 7th. Kevin Burton placed 15th.
Women’s 5km – Visually Impaired: No competitors from Team USA.
