The United States Soccer Women's National Team ended its 10-game winning streak against the Ferns of New Zealand with a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH after the Americans dominated these same Ferns with a 4-1 rout on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Candlestick Park in San Francisco, CA.
U.S. Forward Sydney Leroux scored the only goal for Team U.S.A. in Columbus with her tally in the 42nd minute, but the U.S. could not add to its score. The Americans failed to hold the lead late in the game with New Zealand forward Hannah Wilkinson scoring in the 87th minute to earn the 1-1 draw for her side. Wilkinson also scored the only New Zealand goal in the game in San Francisco.
Team U.S.A. dominated the entire game in San Francisco. Megan Rapinoe scored off a direct free kick in the 7th minute. Carli Lloyd made it 2-0 in the 12th minute with her tally, and Christen Press added a goal in the 42nd minute for a 3-0 Team U.S.A. halftime lead. Wilkinson finally put New Zealand on the board with her tally in the 54th minute, and United States midfielder Heather O'Reilly finished the scoring with her goal in the 87th minute for the 4-1 Team U.S.A victory.
The U.S. is now 10-1-1 all-time against New Zealand and 12-0-3 in 2013. The Americans will place Brazil on Nov. 10 at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL.
