Team Coco News: Conan O'Brien billboards popping up around the country (with photos)

Conan is coming, America.  Are you ready?

Conan O'Brien's "Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour" is gearing up as we speak, with the debut performance landing in Eugene, OR on Monday evening.  Very little is known about what we can expect from the tour, though Conan has promised laughter, music, and "hugging".  We also know that his sidekick, Andy Richter, will be along for the ride-- though Triumph The Insult Comic Dog will not.  Finally, we know that Conan's promotional team has gone into overdrive, with the digital billboards seen on this page just the first to pop up around the country.  The billboards feature whatever Conan Tweeted last, and update as regularly as he does.  The company behind the boards, Lamar, had this to say about the project:

Conan has lost his home and his rightful place on millions of screens across the nation. His audience is also lost. Some are picking up the pieces of their lives, but many can't. Some are too young to know this isn't their fault: that they've done nothing wrong. So, until this talented, brilliant, voluptuously coiffed man has his show back, we shall offer him our screens.  His tweets will be displayed 22 feet wide on thousands of digital displays across this great land in the noble hope of putting a little Conan back in all of our lives. Lamar is with Coco.

Do these Tweets offer any clues as to what we can expect from Conan's live show?  No, probably not, but they're still awesome.  Here, we've got two more:

Conan taking a swipe at Duke?  Man, that's almost too good to be true.  Here's the other one:

So, what is APlaceForConan.com, the website that all of these billboards are advertising?  Well, they're currently just featuring the same pictures you see here and the above explanation, but I'd be willing to bet that they'll be updating with some tour-related stuff as soon as Monday rolls around.  In other words, you probably want to stay tuned to APlaceForConan.com in the next few days to see what pops up.

What do you guys think?  Good idea for a promotional campaign, or obnoxious (if you say "obnoxious", you're not on Team Coco anymore)?  Sound off in the comments section below, my precious snowflakes.  And, after you've done that, feel free to check out some of these other recent articles from the Comedy Examiner's Office:

FUNNY VIDEO: DOES ELLEN DEGENERES HATE AMERICA?  SURVEY SAYS "NO", FAMILY SAYS "YES" (WITH VIDEO)-- in which one very dumb family thinks it's a good idea to go up against the Degeneres Mafia.  Smooth move, dumb family.

BREAKING NEWS: HUGH JACKMAN SIGNS ON FOR ROLE WHERE HE'LL HAVE SOMETHING ON HIS CHIN (HINT: IT'S TESTICLES)-- in which...oh, you read the headline and you probably already clicked the link, didn't you?  It's for real, folks: I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

FUNNY VIDEO: JIMMY FALLON AND THE CAST OF "PARKS AND REC" PERFORM TWISTED SISTER IN THE KEY OF "GLEE" (WITH VIDEO)-- in which Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and the cast of Parks and Rec perform one helluva rendition of "We're Not Gonna Take It".

EXAMINER POLL: NBC HAS RENEWED JERRY SEINFELD'S "THE MARRIAGE REF", BUT ARE YOU EVEN WATCHING IT? (WITH POLL)-- in which we ask you, the gentle Examiner reader, to weigh in on "The Marriage Ref" once and for all.

    I think Conan is good.

This article has a lot of misinformation. Lamar is completely behind these billboards. Conan's people have not kicked the advertising into "overdrive." They have done no advertising for this tour at all, except a single Twitter post announcing the tickets would be on sale. Apparently the head of Lamar is a huge Conan fan, and no one on Conan's side was aware of the billboards until a couple of days ago.

That may be true, but do you think Conan is good? I think David had the right idea on this one.

Did you go to the site?
"This site is not affiliated with Conan O’Brien, NBC Universal, or Conaco.
We at Lamar are huge fans and simply wish to give Conan the love he deserves.

Special thanks to Mike Mitchell for allowing us to use his “I’m with Coco” design."
Just someone loving on the Coco is all this is.

Whether it's Conan's publicity team or Lamar's initiative, it's still awesome that Conan is spreading humour some way some how.

I was going to comment that this is nothing to do with Conan's team and is purely the work of Lamar, but someone has already done that. A visit to the site itself would have confirmed that for you in 30 seconds. "we know that Conan's promotional team has gone into overdrive". We know nothing of the sort. Does anyone even bother to find out whether what they're writing in their articles is true? Don't answer that.

These billboards are awesome in their own right, and all the more so because, as many people have noted, they were unsolicited and are unaffiliated with Conan or his team. Thanks Lamar, for brightening so many commutes and putting a little Coco back in our lives. :D P.S. This tour will be epic-- so bummed I couldn't get tickets.

I'm with CoCo, but this seems like ... dumb ... he's a television star, because of his motions, his tone, and his hair... There isn't enough of that on the billboard and those tweets are not funny... just imagine yourself saying those things... dumb ... people driving by reading that might get a chuckle every so often but, it doesn't do him justice and I think it makes him look like a chode. Give him a vacation...

to "superdouchebaggery.com" - He's doing the tour so all the proceeds go to his staff and keep them afloat. He didn't have to do it.

Conan had nothing to do with this website. GO TEAM COCO

Although they say it's just because they like him... that's a pretty expensive undertaking. Corporations aren't usually in the habit of offering their newest technology and products for free just because they like someone. My guess I'd that they'll earn quite a bit of attention for their digital billboards with this arrangement, so even if Coman's team isn't paying for it, Lamar is definitely not taking a loss.
