Team Canada wins silver in mixed relay luge in Germany

According to the Canadian Press, Calgary's Alex Gough, Sam Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith teamed up to win a silver medal on Sunday in a World Cup mixed relay luge event in Konigssee, Germany.

For Gough, Walker and Snith, it was the conclusion of an exceptional weekend. Gough won a bronze medal on Saturday in the women's luge event, while Walker and Snith won a bronze medal in the men's doubles luge. Walker and Snith became the first Canadians to ever medal in a World Cup in men's doubles luge.

On Sunday, Gough, Edney, Walker and Snith posted a total time of 2:44.499. The German team of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt had a time of 2:42.781. Italy meanwhile finished in third place with a time of 2:44.681. It was the third silver medal in five events for Team Canada in mixed relay luge on the World Cup circuit this year.

The last World Cup mixed relay competition before the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi will take place in Altenberg, Germany two weeks from now.
