The team skipped by Canadian flag bearer Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton, Alberta, defeated Norway 6-5 to capture the bronze medal.
The Canadian squad which also included third Mick Lizmore, second Brad Thiessen and lead Karrick Martin, all of Edmonton, finished with a record of 7-2 in the round robin before losing to Great Britain 7-4 in the semi-finals. Karrick Martin is the son of Canadian Olympic champion (from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver) Kevin Martin, who was also the gold medal winner in men's curling at the 2008 World Men's Curling Championship from Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The Canadians received a hard battle from team Norway as it took 11 ends before the Canadian team was victorious. On Friday, Sweden defeated Great Britain 9-5 to win the gold medal.
The Canadian women's team meanwhile was not so lucky at the 2013 Winter Universiade. The team which was skipped by Laura Crocker also of Edmonton, finished in sixth place with a record of 4-5.
Team Canada has now won four medals at the 2013 Winter Universiade--two silver medals and two bronze medals.
