Teague Moore has been announced as the new head wrestling coach at American University Friday, leaving a similiar position at Clarion University after five years.
Moore replaces Mark Cody, who left American for the head coaching job at the University of Oklahoma in April.
As head mat coach at the school based in Clarion, Penn., Moore led the Golden Eagles to a fourth-place finish at the 2011 Eastern Wrestling League Championships and the program’s first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship since 1994. He was named the 2011 PSAC Coach of the Year.
“We are very excited to welcome Teague Moore to American University as the new head coach of our wrestling program,” said Keith Gill, American's Director of Athletics and Recreation. “Teague has the skills, experience and drive to lead our student-athletes to continued success on the mat and in the classroom. His values are in alignment with our institution’s principles of commitment to academic and athletic achievements.”
Moore will be piloting a program that placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in March (the highest team placement in the school's history). Nine of 10 starters remain on the American Eagle roster, including NCAA All-Americans Ryan Flores and Ganbayar Sanjaa, and two EIWA (Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association) champions (Flores and Matt Mariacher).
As a wrestler, Moore was a four-year starter at Oklahoma State, earning All-American honors three times, and winning the 118-pound title at the 1998 NCAA championships.
