Teagan, German shepherd with amazing spirit to survive, meets rescuer with amazing spirit to save

Teagan, a lovely German shepherd, was born a puppy much like any other.

A curious mind, a playful spirit, loyalty and affection to share with a special person. Unfortunately, Teagan was not a lucky dog.

This beautiful, young dog did not end up with a kind owner - instead, she endured years of neglect and abuse. Severe mistreatment that no living creature should have to experience, much less, endure for years.

Teagan was found dumped in Mississippi. Her body was beaten and emaciated - the young dog weighed a meager 15 lbs. Years of malnutrition caused her hair to fall out and her skin to peel away. Her body was hunched and weak - it appeared that she was kept in a crate that was too small for her growing body.

Her front leg had been trapped in her collar for many weeks - her every move caused the collar to cut into her skin, until it had worked its way 2 inches deep into her flesh. The 8 in long wound was gaping and painful. Her face had been smashed on the side, causing her eye to rupture. Both of her ears were severely infected and her body was infested with parasites.

Everything about Teagan spoke of unbearable misery and pain. No shelters were able to take on a dog with injuries such as Teagan's - her medical expenses and required care were simply too great.

A German Shepherd Rescue contacted a woman known for her capacity to take on special cases such as Teagan's - a woman by the name of Janice Wolf.

Janice has an amazing spirit for rescuing dogs such as Teagan. Rather than looking at the extensive medical expenses and tremendous time involvement for injured dogs such as Teagan, Janice steps up to help.

In order to help dogs like Teagan, Janice lives modestly. So modestly that she does without the things that most of us take for granted. Her home is a mere 500 sq ft. She does without cell phone, washer/dryer and new clothes - eating out and movies are too luxurious to even be considered while there are animals that need her help. She says that helping homeless, abused animals is her life and her source of joy - she literally lives to make a difference in their lives.

For 10 wks now, Teagan and Janice have been together. Two amazing spirits - one with a will to live and one with a will to save.

Teagan was bathed, treated for her ear infection and parasites. She receives good food and sleeps on a soft bed. Because of the care that she has received, she can now walk upright - for that matter, she can now run.

Janice told me that Teagan has been a joy to be around from the start. She is a model patient that has blossomed so much in such a short time. Teagan is now healthy enough to have the surgeries that she needs for a complete recovery. Her damaged eye needs to be surgically removed, and the enormous gash from the collar needs to be sewn. She also needs to be spayed.

Janice took on Teagan knowing that the medical expenses would be great, but having the faith that the funds would make it to her if she did her part in caring for the abused dog. Faith is what keeps Janice going and it is what enables her to help dogs like Teagan.

If you are touched by Teagan's story, and by Janice's amazing rescue spirit, you can help by making a donation towards Teagan's medical expenses. A Chip-In fund has been established for Teagan. You can make a donation here. You can also visit Janice's non-profit rescue Rocky Ridge Rescue by clicking the link.

Teagan will be available for adoption as soon as her injuries are completely healed and her surgeries have all been completed. Janice wants Teagan to have her own family - a family that can show her the love and care that she never experienced before Janice. A home where this special dog can be spoiled and loved unconditionally.

Teagan is worth it - in Janice's words, "She is an amazing little spirit and will bless her new owner with the special loving energy she carries".

Please share Teagan and Janice's story with others. There are too many dogs like Teagan and there are not enough people like Janice. They are both deserving of our support.

there is a quote from The Prince by Machiavelli i'm not so sure, that if you have gotten the loyalty of your pet you are responsible for them until their death.

What this poor, innocent dog has gone through is heartbreaking. So much so that you wonder who in their right mind would do something so evil. But if you do what I do, you find out that there are millions of dogs, cats, birds, you name, they are being abused. And by no fault of their own.

It is beyond me how or why anyone would want to harm another living, breathing creature. But their out there and they are looking for their next victim. So please speak up when you see any creature being abused. You may save their lives.

    DO THE RIGHT THING!

I managed to make a donation. However, I found that Digg had had a complaint over this item so I could not post it on Digg.

All my best wishes to this lovely creature.

I should have said Digg had a complaint over the item which it said appeared to breach it rules or something. I wanted to leave a message for Digg that it didn't appear to break any rules but could not find out how to.

Who on Earth would make a complaint like that? What nastiness!!
