Sierra Vista- Is it time to up the ante, why are we allowing our youth to be educated without the Constitution? Did you know that Buena High School does not even have civics classes? In addition, if you go to the middle Schools they are teaching the “nationally accepted” version of our foundation as a nation, with emphasis on taxation. Here is a quote from the government approved workbooks, “explain how the following provisions of the United States Constitution give government the power it needs to fulfill the purposes for which it was established” this in relation to Taxation not freedom, not balance of power. For those who believe I am not telling the truth, when was the last time you asked your children what they know about the Constitution.
I am willing to bet that for most of us it has been quite awhile since we even asked how they are doing in class. You and I are raising the next leaders of this great nation; don’t we want to ensure they understand what it is they are going to be leading? Should not it be important to ensure they understand the very foundations of this nation, civic should be mandatory, and yet there is hardly a mention of our Constitution at a Middle School level and none in High School? Call the superintendent today and remind them that they work for us and we want our children to have the option to learn the Constitution. I mean we do not want to force those who enjoy living in ignorant bliss to learn anything-useful right.

So much has changed in the educational system over the years.
In my day we learned the Constitution, with all its amendments, and how the government worked. Sadly, we didn't get any of the debates on whether half the stuff that the Congress does is even constitutional--though we were told that the Constitution is subject to "informal amendment" in five different ways.
That's the progressive track to communism via socialism for ya... I tell my kids all the time about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. and how the Income Tax was never ratified plus I tell them that school is no longer education, just indoctrination. I tell them it's wonderful if you want to attend school (instead of getting a GED) to hang out with your friends, but never take their word for anything, look it up, check it, and DON'T BE AFRAID TO CONTRADICT THE TEACHER IF THEY'RE WRONG. They know I will back them up if they're considered insubordinate for telling the truth.
Children need to learn about the laws that govern them.
There has been a effort by many in education to avoid teaching anything concerning the Constitution or our founding fathers. They are often refered to as "framers" as if they they created some document to be changed and re-written at a latter date. That is why we have delt with legislation from the bench that has encroached on personal liberty, while the pursuit of happiness is squashed. The part about "taxation without represenation" should be driven home to our youth, and often.
interesting, I am so far out of the school scene now, I don't even know what the schools teach anymore
I have had 5 children come through Buena High School. It wasn't easy but they all survived. 10% of the teachers do their job, the rest do the miniumum to keep their jobs.
An example, daughter Sarah came with a paper due about the U.N. I suggested she write about the earliest of U.N. resolutions, creating the State of Israel, still controversial. Needless to say, that was not what the "teacher indoctrinator" was looking for.
I once`read a statement from a teacher about one of my children's lack of participation in a study hall. The grammar was horrific, the sentence structure led me to believe the writer was semi literate at best.
If we get rid of the Department of Education, at the least there may be some competition for the jobs...
