Monday, a Rio Rancho, New Mexico high school teacher was put on probation after he allegedly told a high school student to take off a Santa Claus hat because Santa is white, and the student was black. ABC News reported the story Tuesday morning.

Christopher Rougier, is the ninth-grade African-American student at Cleveland High School who was dressed to play Santa Claus when the teacher (whose name has not been released) told him to take the hat off because Santa Claus is white.

Rougier’s father, Michael told the media about the situation and he is outraged at the situation because he said that his son is deeply embarrassed and ashamed and won’t go near any Christmas decorations.

Michael Rougier was told that the teacher was disciplined, but doesn’t know exactly to what extent. Michael said that he thinks the teacher should be fired.

According to ABC News, Michael Rougier said this about his son:

“He was embarrassed. He was literally embarrassed. He said his son was so ashamed that he now refuses to touch Christmas decorations.

About the teacher, Michael Rougier said:

“He needs to be fired. For him to make a comment like that, there has to be a minimum prejudice in him and we don’t have room for that.”
