The story of a Texas teacher suspended over a lasso incident is making headlines in the UK.
Wednesday’s Daily Mail headline read, “Texas teacher LASSOED 13-year-old student by the neck during history lesson on cowboys “
The Mail article included a photo of the rope burns.
The lasso incident was meant as a lesson the cowboy craft of cattle-driving. But it left the student with bruises on his neck. The teacher accidentally put the lasso over the boy’s head instead of his shoulders.
The suspended teacher taught history at the Schrade Middle School in Rowlett, about a half hour outside of Dallas.
A school spokesman said that teacher asked for volunteers to act like cattle as they ran around the room and he tried to rope them in. He was lassoing for the students' shoulders, but missed with the injured boy.
The lassoed boy is 13 years old.
The suspended teacher has taught at the school for six years. The teacher had roping experience.
UPI reports that The Rowlett Police Department is investigating the incident for possible criminal charges.
