A teacher was suspended for lassoing a student at Schrade Middle School in Rowlett, Texas, according to a Feb. 13 report in the New York Post.
A seventh grade teacher was said to be teaching his class a lesson on lassoing techniques that cowboys use. In the process of his lesson, he asked if anyone wanted to volunteer for a demonstration he was about to show them. A 13-year-old boy raised his hand and began running. At that point the teacher lassoed a rope around his neck that left bad bruises and marks visible on his neck. His parents were understandably upset when their son came home injured from the incident.
The Garland Independent School District immediately suspended the teacher and an investigation is being conducted. There might be criminal charges, but Garland Independent School District spokesman, Chris Moore, said the injuries weren't intentional by the teacher.
"This is not something that we feel was malicious, it was not intentional," Moore said.
Moore added, "Extremely unfortunate, and extremely poor judgment."
The teacher in question has promised to never use a lasso in his classroom again.
