A teacher was stabbed to death as her students watched on Friday at a Long Beach playground. Kellye Taylor, 53, a teacher at the Huntington Academy, was stabbed repeatedly. Steven Brown, 50, was booked on suspicion of murder and held on $1 million bail, according to Fox News Local on Oct. 12.
This horrendous scene happened as Taylor’s students stood helplessly and watched a man stab their teacher. Taylor and two other teachers were at the Orizaba Park across the street from the school supervising a couple of dozen students at the time of the attack.
Taylor was sitting in a folding chair at the park watching the school children on the playground equipment when Brown came up from behind and stabbed her repeatedly. Pamela Huffman, Taylor’s sister said some of the kids ran back to the school to tell Huffman what had happened. Huffman also works at the school.
Huffman said she ran to her sister but she knew she was slipping away. She died with her sister by her side. Brown was apprehended a few blocks away. Witnesses identified him and a weapon was recovered from the scene, although the police would not say what kind of weapon this was.
Huffman said that Taylor was the grandmother of Brown’s four children and she had custody of the children. Brown did not like the custody arrangement so this may have been what started the anger Brown was feeling toward Taylor.
The case is under investigation today.
