Teacher of the Year gets 38 years: A former teacher in Florida who received the Teacher of the Year award is facing 38 years of prison time after a judge convicted her maintaining a highly inappropriate relationship with one of her 12-year-old students. Christian Post reports Dec. 12 that Ethel Anderson, 30, begged the judge for mercy while in tears. She said her only purpose in life was to raise her daughter.

"I am ashamed and embarrassed to be standing in this courtroom and I keep telling myself this is not my life," Anderson said in court. "I share all this with you judge, in the hope that there is something you see in me, that I'm worthy of mercy."

The 12-year-old victim at the time is now 14. He got tired of lying to his mother and the Teacher of the Year who got 38 years of prison time, was jeopardizing everything.

The boy testified in court:

"I felt like she was a girlfriend, I loved her and she said that I was her boyfriend and she loved me. She would rub on my legs, kiss on my ears, neck and stuff like that…We would tongue kiss… I didn't want to lose my virginity to a teacher."

Over 230 pages of explicit text messages were exchanged with the young boy. Anderson claimed she was trying to help a student who was struggling in school, had behavioral issues, and was unable to connect with his family. Anderson admitted to having a relationship with the boy and that it was inappropriate. In the end, the judge showed now mercy for Anderson and gave the former Teacher of the Year 38 years, describing her as a parent's worst nightmare who deserved to be severely punished for her actions.
