Teacher Lauren Patterson’s body was burned to the point where visual recognition was not possible, reports UPI on Oct. 17.The sordid details regarding what happened to the British teacher are slowly being released, as her family grieves her murder.
DNA testing is being done to formally confirm the identification of the body found dumped and charred in the desert in Doha, Qatar, but other sources have already confirmed that the body is that of the 24-year-old teacher.
Patterson worked in the Gulf state of Qatar and was last seen on October 12, reports the AFP via Yahoo! News. She was seen leaving a five-star hotel in Doha with a group of men in the early hours Saturday, including one man that is thought to be an ex-boyfriend.
She was declared missing that morning. Patterson’s current boyfriend, James Grima, who lives in the southern European country of Malta, launched a frantic social media campaign across multiple sites to find his missing girlfriend, whose body was recovered after being dumped in a desert.
In a statement on the Gulf state's Ministry of Interior website, officials said: “The police has arrested the suspects of a European woman's murder. The case has been referred to Public Prosecution to complete further judicial procedures applicable in this regard.”
The Interior Ministry has yet to provide any further details, but media outlets are reporting that two men have been arrested; possibly the same men Patterson was seen leaving the nightclub with.
Lauren’s mother, 48-year-old Alison Patterson, said her daughter was having the “time of her life” working in Doha in her third year as a primary school teacher at the Newton British School.
“Lauren was a wonderful young woman having the time of her life. There have been so many people that have put to us how highly they thought of Lauren and loved her,” Alison said.
Boyfriend James expressed his sentiments, writing:
“I was so happy that I had finally found someone that could my change my life so much, and in such a positive way too – Rest In Peace babe, I will always look up at the sky cause you always were the brightest star and always will be.”
