A teacher found dead outside of a high school in Danvers, Mass. was allegedly killed by a student early this morning. On Oct. 23, The Chicago Tribune reported that a 14-year-old is in custody and suspected of shooting the teacher who was found in the woods behind the school in the overnight hours. All schools in Danvers are closed today following this tragedy.
"Police found the body of Colleen Ritzer... a teacher at Danvers High School, in the woods after discovering blood in a second-floor bathroom," The Chicago Tribune reports. A motive is still unclear.
The teacher found dead was clearly targeted for some reason. Police said that they don't believe there were any other suspects and no one else was injured. It does sound like this was a pre-meditated murder and that the teen wanted to kill this particular teacher for some reason (perhaps a bad grade or a deranged high school obsession)
"It was apparent that she was a homicide victim. This is a terrible tragedy. We have no reason to believe there were any other suspects involved," said Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett. An investigation is still ongoing. The student is expected to appear in court today.
The teacher found dead was only 24-years-old.
