It has been the worst kept secret on the web, be careful what you post on social media because it could hurt you in the future. Attorneys have used implicating evidence from Facebok to reinforce their case. People have been punished by their employers for not sharing their social media pages. People have even lost their jobs because of social media - and it looks like another person could be added to that list. According to an article published Jan. 22, 2013 from ABC News a school teacher named Melissa Cairns could lose her job after posting a picture of her students on Facebook. It is not necessarily that she posted a picture of her students that is causing such an uproar. It is that she posted a picture of her students with duct tape over their mouths with the caption: "Finally found a way to get them to be quiet!!!"
This was reported to the school board - the same board considering letting her go for the act. In the news video which you can watch here Cairns tells reporters that her students put the duct tape over their own mouths and urged her to take a picture. She doesn't say they urged her to post it on Facebook with the caption above. The picture has since been removed but when one googles Melissa Cairns they will see this story long after the incident.
What do you think, should she lose her job for a mistake? What have you posted on the blogosphere that you wish you could take back and how did this effect your life? Feel free to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
