Sherri Davis, a teacher at Jamie’s House Charter School in Houston beat one of the students while faculty watched and students made a cell phone video of the beating; Davis was fired this week. Isaiah Johnson, 13, the student who was beaten at first thought it was a joke and he is seen laughing in the video, until Davis begins to punch him in the face.
The other students are laughing at the beginning of the video because they also thought it was a joke. Johnson reportedly teased a female students and that is when Davis began to get upset. See the video of the beating below.
Janiqua Johnson filmed the video on her cell phone and said that Davis "snapped." The teacher "just started beating him up," Janiqua Johnson told local TV news, KHOU. "His behavior may have been bad but he didn't deserve that," Johnson said, about him teasing the female student.
In April, after the incident occurred Davis was placed on administrative leave, but she was fired Monday when school officials saw the video.
"It was horrifying," said Sue Jones, spokesperson for the school. "There's just no other word for that." The school is investigating the other teachers who allegedly stood by and watched.
The video has people around the country asking if the teacher should be brought up on charges.
In the state of Utah, a provisional teacher can easily be fired in their first three years of employment, and after that any teacher can be fired with good cause.

How come the police were not called and child protection service and most of all, why isn't Ms. Davis arrested on the spot. This is clearly child abuse and assault and battery on a child. If she had done this to one of my children, her day on this earth would be numbered.
Ya'll just do not know how far students will push teachers. The only thing these children (with some exceptions) this day in age is.nothing or no one..not their elders, not themselves, not police officers or security (with weapons)-b/c they know they are protected by "laws" while adults are "supposed" to mature enough to handle their emotions. The truth is every person no matter their age or maturity has a certain amount that they can tolerate. Sadly, she was in the wrong career field, I hope she can find another career. As for his little- he will be okay. He was not bleeding, she didn't fracture anything on him and he probably deserved it. Corrected Statement-the only thing these children fear or respect is nothing.....anyway....like I said I feel bad for her. She should have just calmed down and went and checked her email-thats what I do when students are not being compliant-why get myself all worked up and angry..it isn't going to make my pay increase! Eventually enough of them will realize that they are wasting their learning time.
Whether or not the child behaved inappropriatley does not warrant this kind of action. The teacher should have disciplined the child in the correct way. There are better ways to teach and discipline a child than physically beating them. The teacher should be arrested for assault and any teachers who stood by and let it happen should be disciplined as well.

teacher clearly out of line, but one has to wonder, exactly WHAT this kid did to provoke this kind of response from an adult teacher. the article indicates that he was "teasing" a handicapped child. must have been pretty severe "teasing". kids are bullies, always have been, always will be, but it's only getting worse. This teacher's actions are in no way justified, but that boy probably deserved an ass beating, just shoulda been dished out by his own parents
teachers and principals are no longer permitted to use physical punishment in schools and this is a good example of why.... in the heat of the moment, some people tend to get carried away and go overboard. I grew up when teachers could hit us with rulers or smack in the back of the head or whatever and no teacher of mine went beyond what was appropriate, but i imagine there are sadists in the school systems just waiting to beat a kid and could easily lose control with a child.

You're absolutely right, Jeff. Although, we do not have the right to condemn people for the mistakes they've done. The teacher however, in this case has abused her authority. There is no warrant for that kind of behavior or action. It's a shame to see a teacher who was supposed to be a role model became unprofessional, out of control in handling the situation. She should have be arrested and lock up for the rest of her life. How many more children will she abuse?

that didn't look real AT ALL. Looks like whoever these people were--she wasn't dressed like a teacher--were just wrestling and playing around, the kid isn't stricken with fear, he's not getting mad, or trying to get away or anything that a kid being beaten would do. The punches she is throwing do not appear to actually even come into contact with the kid. This is pure BS.
Before I watch this video I thought the teacher was defiantly wrong. After watching it I fell the student provoked her to this point and probably has for a long time. Granted hitting him was not the solution, but I think he does the samething to his parents and she probable knows that. I her effort to show some kind of discipline she crossed the line. Her best method would learn to say GO TO THE OFFICE OR GET OUT OF THIS CLASS ROOM. She knows where he is headed and she wants to stop it. How would you teach a child to stop this kind of behavior? First off- no, this never should happen. My confusion is if people such as Teacher-Hater, etc. hate teachers so much (and by the way there are male teachers) why do you send your kids to school? People like you are the reason kids go to school with a bad attitude to begin with. You are the first teacher of your children and if you have this "I hate teachers and think they should all get their asses kicked" attitiude, your children are going to bring that with them. They will miss out on growing and learning because they come to school so filled with hate. Don't send your kids to school. Homeschool them if you think you can do a better job, please.
