A former Los Angeles teacher was arrested Wednesday for the alleged molestation of 20 young victims, Los Angeles Times reports Jan. 24. He apparently quit his job before he could be fired.
Robert Pimentel, 57, taught at George de la Torre Jr. Elementary School in Wilmington. Court documents reveal that the alleged molesting occurred from September 2011 through March 2012. Several fourth-grade girls claimed last March that they were touched in appropriately by Pimentel and an investigation was launched. So far prosecutors have charged him with 15 counts of sexual abuse and lewd acts on a child. Authorities said the teacher arrested for molestation is believed to have touched the students over and under their clothing.
Police say Pimentel is also suspected of sexually abusing one adult, but it's not known if that individual is linked to the school system.
Before the Los Angeles Unified School District and Board of Education could begin the process of officially dismissing the teacher, he retired. He had worked with the district since 1974.
Pimentel's bail has been set at $12 million.
