A former teacher at Cypress Lakes High School in Houston, Texas, is facing some serious criminal charges.
Kelly Lynn Thompson, 26, was arrested this week after authorities say she had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.
According to court documents, the Cypress Lakes High School's Independent School District Police began investigating Thompson after they received a call from a witness who said Thompson had been having a relationship with a student. That witness told police the teacher claimed she and the student were in love.
Investigators say evidence shows after they began questioning Thompson about the relationship, she allegedly sent texts to a couple of close friends pleading with them to deny knowledge of the relationship.
Cy Fair police interviewed the teen involved in the case this week. They say the unidentified student admitted he was involved in a sexual relationship with his teacher. They say the boy told them at least one incident happened in Thompson's car while parked outside of his house.
The district released a statement on the Thompson arrest. It reads:
"Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is very concerned about the serious nature of the allegations against a former Cy Lakes teacher. Inappropriate behavior or misconduct will not be tolerated by any staff member. The safety of our students is always our highest priority, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.
Parents at the school aren't rushing to judgment, with one parent telling ABC13.com, 'I think it could be both ways. It could be a student making something up, or it could be you know, wrong that the teacher is having an inappropriate relationship with a student.'
Thompson was booked on charges of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor and tampering with witnesses.
She's due back in court today.
