Is tea a magic potion as some people think? Only in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer, which opens at 8 p.m. tonight at the Montgomery Theatre in downtown San Jose. Presented by Lyric Theatre of San Jose, The Sorcerer is a classic Gilbert & Sullivan light opera in that it has a romantic couple, a disaster, and a happy ending, with lots of great music, comedy, beautiful sets and costumes in between. In this case, tea provides the disaster, because it’s really a magic love potion from the Sorcerer himself! This production contains a non-traditional twist, in that it’s set in India, and features Bollywood-style dancing! For more details, click here.
The Sorcerer performances continue through the weekend with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. this Sunday and next Sunday, and evening performances from Thursday, June 23 to Saturday, June 25. To buy tickets, click here or call Lyric Theatre at (408) 986-1455. Why not get downtown early – parking is easier – and go to dinner beforehand? You could go out for Indian food or even go to tea at Satori Tea Bar, and then walk the 4 blocks to the Montgomery?
