If the TEA Parties Tax Day protests are successful on April 15, 2009, it may tell the international community that Americans are still willing to stand up for what they think is right. It may conflict with the picture of the United States that Obama tried to portray during his speeches outside the country.
The protest might remind America's counterparts in other part of the world that the lessons taught in the 1773 Tea Act remain part of the U.S. citizens' heritage to stand up for what they think is right when government goes too far. It may be against a variety of recent actions by Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress including those who want lower taxes, the way taxes are being used, objections to involuntary taxes and money squandered in the bailouts.
Many attending the TEA Parties are protesting against what they see as the loss of personal freedoms and that the government has no right to do anything at any time that jeopardizes the individual liberty of American citizens. They see recent actions by their government as an attack on capitalism, free markets and individual rights.
No matter how many people turn up, how much attention the TEA Parties will receive from the media, and that it may be ignored by Obama and the Democrats, in the words of Samuel Adams
The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil institution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attack.
which is the protestors message to the world. In other words,
Don't Tread on Me!

What would define a successful tea party? What were your feelings on the nationwide immigration protests? Did you support their efforts for immigrant rights? I have different views on this issue that I have shared on my own page if you care to comment.

"they see as the loss of personal freedoms and that the government has no right to do anything at any time that jeopardizes the individual liberty of American citizens. They see recent actions by their government as an attack on capitalism, free markets and individual rights."
Like what? I don't get what these vague things are. Give me some examples.
Some see it as a way for Fox News to boost ratings.
For those of you have been on "comments" since I began writing for Examiner just three months ago,you know that I seldom send any comments to it myself.
My purpose is to bring up a topic in my articles and then learn more about how America thinks from your responses to it.
One of the things I admire most about those of you making comments instead of complaining to other blogs about something I written, you have the courage to write where others who may or many not agree share this space on the Internet.
What I see here is the practice of one our most precious gifts as Americans, "freedom of speech." I consider it a privilege to share that gift with all of you.

Martha, I wish to congratulate you for not taking their bait.
Jenny,
What do you mean by "immigration rights" If they are "illegal" they should be deported, period, they broke the law. Their "illegal" rights are free healthcare and not having to pay taxes. As for the LEGAL immigrants their right was/is to have a visa and the legal right to become a naturalized citizen.
