Tea Party members plan rally in support of California students who wore American flag shirts

Members of the Silicon Valley Tea Party Patriots organization plan a rally Saturday in Morgan Hill, California, in support four students were sent home for wearing shirts with the American flag on it on Cinco de Mayo.

The Tea Partiers say they will gather from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, on Monterey Road and Third Street.

The four Live Oak High School who were kicked out of school for wearing American flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo have attracted national media attention.    Now members of the Tea Party organization are rallying to show their support.

Members of the group say they will gather with American flags and wearing red, white and blue.

The group's Facebook page notes that it is not an official Tea Party event:

David Howell wrote: "While not an official Tea Party Patriots event, everyone should know about the rally this SATURDAY, MAY 8, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 3d St.. at MONTEREY HIGHWAY, MORGAN HILL, to support the teenagers from Live Oak High who got kicked off campus for wearing American flag shirts. Please come, bring/wear flags (Old Navy!), and be heard!"

The controversy over the four students from Live Oak High in Morgan Hill, California, generated national attention. Four boys, all members of the football team, and two of whom said they were part-Latino showed up at school with shirts with the American flag on them on Cinco de Mayo. The school demanded they turn the shirts inside out.

The day after Cinco de Mayo, on Thursday, May 6, about 100 students walked out of class to protest against the students who were wearing the American flag on Cinco de Mayo.

Students were encouraged to wear the "peace colors" of white and purple on Friday, May 7, in support of a peaceful campus.
