Saturday's Tea Party demonstration in Madison, Wisconsin proved a disappointment for organizers of the right wing gathering, as two leading members of the conservative movement - Sarah Palin and Andrew Breitbart - were forced to speak over boos, heckles and cowbells coming from a hostile, mostly progressive, crowd.
According to estimates approximately 5,500 people showed up for the much ballyhooed Tea Party rally. However, Tea Party enthusiasts were out numbered 10 to 1 by liberals, progressives and Democrats protesting the event.
At one point an angry and frustrated Andrew Breitbart yelled at the hostile crowd "Go to Hell! Go to Hell!" All the while the crowd taunted Breitbbart with shouts of "Shame, Shame, Shame!" and "Tax, Tax, Tax, Tax the rich!"
Breitbart was there to introduce reigning Tea Party Queen Sarah Palin. Palin faired a little better than Breitbart, and seemed not to be as rattled by the hostile crowd.
A combative Palin told the crowd:
“Madison, these are the front lines in the battle for the future of our country. This is where the line has been drawn in the sand, and I am proud to stand with you today in solidarity. ... The 2012 election begins here!”
