Sunday, June 1, Barb Gulley, Detroit Tea Examiner and owner of Barb's TEA Shop Seminars, will present a tea etiquette talk at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. Situated in the luxury hotel's tea lobby, guests will be treated to light hors d'ouevres and bottomless cups of tea during the tea presentation.
To readers of the Examiner, I am excited to share information about this event as I have found The Townsend to be an uptown, hidden gem of a place to experience afternoon tea. The ambiance created by the crystal chandeliers, working fireplace, velvety sofas and fresh floral arrangements throughout the hotel's lobby makes it a perfect spot to celebrate any occasion with friends over a cup of tea.
The tea talk presentation will cover not only tea manners and protocol, but the origin of tea, the types of tea and tea's place in different cultures. Tea has been incorporated in many societies and it's remarkable that this beverage has held such importance to command its own set of rituals in various ceremonies throughout the world.
The talk will conclude on a personal note as I share some tea room recommendations from venues I have personally visited in New York, London, Paris, and most recently, Dublin.
The event will be held June 1 from noon to 2:00 pm. Cost is $36.00 per person. Reservations are required. For more information and reservations, call 248-647-2196 or visit The Townsend Hotel Afternoon Tea page on their website.
