If you are craving that warm indulgence of tea just before bed you better think twice, as that warm embrace could lead to a long night of tossing and turning. There are a couple of things to keep in mind before you get your brew going and the first one might shock you the most. The truth is that almost any true tea could lead to a longer night as they will have caffeine in them. Green, White, Black or any other variants from the tea family will contain some levels of caffeine which has been shown to create issues with sleep patterns.
So now that we have ruled out tea what can we have before bed? The answer is herbal mixes! Not all herbal drinks are good before bed as some do contain caffeine, such as Yerba Mate. However there is a large majority of herbs that can be brewed up nicely to drift you off into a nice, calming state just before bed. Each different herb has a different taste and property to offer so try them all out, there are many little wonders in tisanes that you just can't find in any other brews.
Some of my favorites are rooibos, honeybush, lemongrass, and chamomile. Take a taste of these and see how they help your sleep out. One note to anyone trying out drinks before bed, is that you should always start in moderation. Different brews have different affects on people. One example is Chamomile, as many find it to be very relaxing. There are people though that do find it an irritant to their bodies, as the plant is closely related to ragweed. If you are allergic to that type of plant it is best to stay on the side of caution when trying out new brews.
