TCNJ women's basketball continues to dominate Jersey City

The TCNJ women's basketball teams win streak over Jersey City continues.

It has been six years since the Gothic Knights have beaten the Lions. Yet, it will take another year before they get another opportunity, as the Lions were able to win 66-50 last night in Jersey City.

It is the eight straight win for the Lions over the Gothic Knights. And the Lions improved to 48-3 all-time against Jersey City.

It is also the second straight year that the Knights lost on "Green and Gold" Day to the Lions. The Knights are 0-10 on this day, including three losses to the Lions.

The Lions improved to 10-5 overall, and 6-2 within the New Jersey Athletic Conference. It is the 33rd straight year that the Lions have won 10 or more games in a season.

The Gothic Knights dropped to 3-12 overall. And they are 1-7 in the conference.

The Lions outscored the Gothic Knights in each half. This included a 12 point lead in the final period.

The Gothic Knights never led in the second half. They were facing a double-digit deficit for much of the half.

Tiffany DeTulio made two of her 15 points with 21 seconds to go. She made back-to-back free throws to put the Lions up 66-50.

The Lions first had a double-digit lead with 7:02 left. Candace Vigo, who had 8 points, made a layup to put the Lions up 11 points at 53-42.

Ashley Vazquez got the Gothic Knights within 2 points at 39-37. Vazquez, who had 16 points, made a jumper to get the game close at the 13:10 mark.

Kelly Roddy, who had 9 points, gave the Lions a 7 point lead nearly a minute into the half. She made a three-pointer to make it 33-26.

The Lions went into the break with a 27-23 lead. DeTulio made a jumper with 14 seconds left at the end of the first half to give the Lions a 4 point lead at intermission.

Before DeTulio's basket, neither team could score. There was a nearly three-minute period, where neither team could score.

That was broken up when Liz West, who contributed 10 points, made a jumper. She made the jumper at 2:58 to give the Lions a 2-point lead at 25-23.

West also made a layup to tie the game at 23 each at 4:16. At 4:37, the Gothic Knights took a two point lead when Gabrielle Rivera made three of her six points on a three-point basket.

The Lions took a 1 point lead when Kelly Coughlin made a three-pointer at 5:03. Coughlin, who scored 7 points, put the Lions up 21-20.

The Lions trailed for much of the first period before this point. They had to overcome two 7 point deficits in the first half.

The Lions jumped out to a two point lead after Vigo made a layup. Then, it was nearly 15 minutes before they had the lead again in the half.
