The TCNJ men’s basketball team has lost another game.
It is their ninth loss on the season. And they have lost 5 of their last 6 games.
They are 3-5 on the road. And the latest loss includes a 58-46 loss to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday night.
The Lions dropped to 1-6 within the New Jersey Athletic Conference and are 3-9 overall. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 10-3 overall and 5-2 within the NJAC.
The Scarlet Raiders led throughout the second half. The Lions were only close twice within this half.
Thirty seconds in, the Scarlet Raiders took a 29-28 lead after a Christian Garcia jumper. Nearly three minutes later, the Lions were within 1 point at 31-30.
Lions’ Joe Kane made a layup at 16:49 to put the Lions within 1 point. It was the last time the Lions were close in the second half.
The Scarlet Raiders would be up as much as 17 points in the rest of the second half. They were up 57-40 with 2:43 left in the game after another Garcia jumper.
The Lions led 28-27 at the intermission. The Lions took a 1 point lead with a Jayson Johnson jumper with 7 seconds left.
With 18 seconds left, the Scarlet Raiders took a 1-point lead when Garcia made two straight free throws to make it 27-26.
The game was close throughout the rest of the first half. The biggest lead by either team came when the Scarlet Raiders went up by 5 points.
They went up 21-16 at that point in the game. Garcia made a jumper with 7:52 left for the five point lead.
The Lions biggest lead in the first half was by 2 points. This happened twice, and the first lead came after a Kane layup.
Matthew Rista made it 4-2 after a layup nearly three minutes after the first two point lead.
The game was also tied twice in the first half. The Scarlet Raiders tied the game at 2-2 after a Hussein Abdelmaksoud made a jumper.
The game was also later tied at 14-14 at 10:59. Rista made a three-pointer for the Lions to tie the game.
Rista lead the Lions scoring attack with 15 points. Jayson Johnson added 12 points. No other Lions players scored in double-figures.
Garcia led the Scarlet Raiders with a game-high 22 points. Abdulmaksoud added 11 points, Like the Lions, there were only two Scarlet Raiders that scored in double-figures.
