TCNJ has Kean's number on the season, as they win both meetings

The TCNJ men's basketball team has struggled this year, but they have Kean's number.

The Lions only have 5 wins this season. Yet, two of those 5 wins have come against the Cougars.

The Lions defeated Kean, 85-73, on Saturday night at Packer Hall.

The Lions improved to 5-12 overall with two of their three conference wins (3-8) have come against Kean. The Cougars dropped to 6-11 overall and 5-6 within the conference.

The win also gave the Lions a sweep of both the Kean men and women's basketball teams.

The Lions led throughout the second half. For much of the last 15 minutes of the game, the Lions had a double-digit lead over the Cougars.

Skyelar Ettin scored a point of his 25 points with thirty seconds left to make it 85-73. Emmanuel Matlock scored two of his 7 points when he made back-to-back free throws to make it 84-73.

He also made two additional free throws to make it 82-7- with less than a minute left. With a minute and 15 seconds left, Ettin made two straight free throws to make it 80-70.

Cougars starter Michael Burton scores three of his 23 points when he made a three-pointer to make it 76-67. Matlock made a layup a short time later to put the Lions up 11 points at 78-67.

The Cougars got within 8 points when Burton made a jump shot to make it 72-64. Then, the Lions forward Jayson Johnson put the Lions back up 10 points ten seconds later after Burton's basket.

Johnson scored two of his six points on back-to-back free throws.

The Lions would have their biggest lead with 16 points. The Cougars got within 13 points when JJ Hladik scored three of his 9 points when he made a three pointer to make it 57-44.

Then, twenty seconds later, Matthew Rista scored three of his 19 points when he made a three pointer to make it 60-44. The Lions also had a 16 point lead when Rista made a free throw to make it 57-41.

The Cougars were within 8 points at 47-39 when Frank Nock scored two of his 11 points on back-to-back free throws. Minutes earlier, they were within 5 points at 42-37 when Kyle Latorre scored two of his 15 points on a layup.

The Lions went into intermission with a 40-33 lead.

With 18 seconds left in the first half, Ryan Duffy scored two of his four points on a layup to make the score 40-33. Teammate Anthony Gibson received an assistant on the play.

Ettin made a jump shot to make the score 40-31. Burton scored six straight points, starting with a jump shot. He then would make four straight free throws to make the score 38-31.

Nock also made a layup to make it 36-23 after Ettin made a three pointer to make the score 36-21. Joe Kane scored his lone point to give the Lions a 17 point lead with nearly nine minutes left, as he made a free throw to make the score 31-14.

They also had a 17 point lead when Alex Fox scored three of his 20 points to make it 28-11. Matlock received an assist on the play.

The Cougars had the score at 8 points when Burton scored on a layup to make it 19-11. Burton's basket came after a jump shot by Fox to make it 19-9.

The Lions went on an 11-0 run after Kean had a 9-8 lead. Fox made all 11 points of this stretch.

Johnson made a layup to make it 9-8, as the Lions trailed by 1 point. Burton made a jump shot to make it 9-6.

The game was tied 4-4 when Ettin made a free throw. Latorre gave Kean a 4-3 lead when he made a jump shot.

Latorre's basket came after Rista gave the Lions a 3-2 lead with a three pointer. The Cougars jumped out to a two-point lead when Tommy Soulias scored two of his four points on a layup.
