TCM has announced that something new is going to happen on the channel, they are starting a new film showcase called, "Friday Night Spotlight," which will be launching on April 5th. According to the senior vice president, Charles Tabesh, TCM's Friday Night Spotlight, will continue with a new guest host each month as it explores themes that range from specific film genres to forgotten gems. This month for April, Robert Osbourne with Cher will kick off the franchise with, "A Woman's World: The Defining Era of Women's Cinema." It's a collection of 17 films handpicked by Cher to show the women's roles involved from the late 30s to the early 50s.
Cher and Robert Osbourne will start off this TV event at 7 pm central time with movies focusing with the film, "Mildred Pierce." After that they are going to show movies about working women, life during war effort, and women taking charge.
According to TCM's website, Cher commented: "Working with Robert isn't like working at all! We can't stop taking about the classics and obscure golden oldies. We talk though the breaks while they move the cameras, check the lighting and do the touch-ups. I can't stop when it comes to the subject of old films, and then I get Robert going, and then the crew and director finally say, 'Ahh Cher? We have a show to do.' Robert and I laugh and become gown-ups again. We don't work. We play every Friday night in April! Come have fun with us."
It sounds like this is going to be a very interesting new thing for TCM, so fans don't forget that April 5th is when this new spotlight is going to start. For the complete April schedule, just click here: "Friday Night Spotlight.
