The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will share its Nov. 4 concert, "Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5," with the world through its latest edition of "Live at Orchestra Hall," a full series of HD webcasts. This week's performance includes Sidereus by Osvaldo Golijov, which the DSO co-commissioned, and Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with guitar virtuoso Xuefei Yang. Last week's webcast of "Beethoven's Fifth" was watched by some 3,700 viewers. These webcasts are produced in partnership with Detroit Public Television.
The concert will air in its entirety on Friday, Nov. 4 at 10:35 a.m., complete with host Alex Trajano presenting pre-concert and intermission features. The special guest this week is Thomas Willis, CEO of Cornerstone Charter Schools. Other guests include guest conductor Joana Carneiro, guitarist Xuefei Yang, DSO principal tuba Dennis Nulty and DSO bass trombone Randy Hawes.
All DSO webcasts are viewable online and on mobile devices at www.dso.org/live and through the DSO to Go app for iPhone and Android devices. To download the free app, search "Detroit Symphony" in the app store. Viewers can interact live with the DSO during the webcast on our twitter feed using the hashtag #dsolive.
"Live From Orchestra Hall," presented by the Ford Motor Company Fund, is one of three new digital initiatives the DSO is introducing this season. Also new to the orchestra's digital repertoire are DSO To Go, a free mobile app, and the DSO’s first downloadable, digital album produced in-house. These initiatives are made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
