We talked to industry representatives yesterday and confirmed that Taylor Swift's upcoming Red Tour will indeed surpass audience numbers (but not gross earnings) for Madonna, Lady Gaga, Cher, and every other female artist who has ever toured. Taylor Swift can thank her gay audience for helping her achieve this goal.
If you don't believe us, just check out the Ticketmaster site for Taylor's tour. She is playing huge stadiums such as Soldier Field in Chicago, Ford Field in Detroit, Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington, TX and Lincoln Financial Field in Pittsburg PA. Tickets are 99 percent sold out and she just keeps adding dates.
The only other really big female stadium act is Madonna, who played to several American stadiums on her Who's That Girl Tour in 1987 and her Sticky & Sweet Tour in 2008. However, Madonna has never sold tickets at the crazy rate Taylor Swift has. Let's hope that like Madonna, Taylor becomes a legend and performs to the same big crowds when she is in her fifties.
