The 45th annual CMA Awards took place in Nashville on November 9, 2011, bringing the biggest names in country music together under one roof. Taylor Swift was among the country music artists scheduled to perform, creating an eagerness among fans who faithfully watch to see what creative productions Taylor will dream up next. Though Taylor Swift has wowed audiences with everything from getting soaking wet to playing piano dressed in an elegant gown, fans may have been surprised at Taylor Swift's performance on the 2011 CMA Awards.
Amid all the glitz and glamour, Taylor all but curled up on a couch with her guitar and sang to the audience as if they were merely best friends hanging out in her living room. The song, Ours, a bonus track from her Speak Now deluxe album, is about a young woman defending her love for her man. Taylor Swift delivered the song in a relaxed but confident tone. There was just a hint of rebellion in her eyes as she sang of judgmental people having nothing else to do and of ignoring "her" father's snide remarks about her lover's tattoos. Whether the song simply tells another of Taylor Swift's imaginative stories or speaks a message to those who may have spoken out about her in the past is left to the listener's discernment. Either way, the laid back performance evoked a standing ovation at its end.
Despite a warm reception for her performance of Ours, Taylor Swift was for the most part, ignored when it came to the 2011 CMA Awards. Since fans have grown quite used to Taylor's excited acceptance speeches coming in multiples, it may have been a bit disheartening to watch as she was passed over for Music Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and even Female Vocalist of the Year. However, cliches such as "patience is a virtue" and "good things come to those who wait," could have become Taylor Swift's personal CMA slogans by the time the night was over. For all the awards that weren't to be, the one that mattered most was delivered into Taylor Swift's anxious hands as the show culminated with the announcement of Entertainer of the Year.
An overjoyed Taylor Swift shot from her chair, raising her arms in a victorious happy dance and hugging her mom. Her pent-up words bubbled forth as the told the audience, "I'm so happy right now!" She thanked the fans who filled up stadiums and arenas this past year and then went on to read a list of artists she had written on her wrist, so as not to forget everyone who came out to sing with her and make her shows a big success.
Taylor Swift ended her speech with "You have made my year! Thank you so much!"
The same sentiments could no doubt be echoed back to her by her fans. Taylor Swift continues to astound fans and those in the country music industry with her endless ability to write hit songs. She is having the time of her life and the 2011 CMA Entertainer of the Year award will definitely be a highlight to remember.
