Sometimes things just don't work out. And then you have to move on. Taylor Swift has had a few different boyfriends over the years. It seems like things last about 2-4 months and then it's splitsville. The modern view is that dating is a numbers game until you find "the one."
But considering how dating works nowadays, Swift isn't so different from the average person. Many people are dating online and when they meet and try to have a relationship in person things often don't work out-even when you give it your best shot. People may have an attraction to each other initially but have nothing in common to keep them together in the long term.
However, most daters are just average people. They aren't on the cover of Vogue, at the top of the charts, attending awards ceremonies, walking the red carpet, or dating other people who are doing those things.
Taylor Swift is a celebrity who meets and dates other celebrities. The pressures of the celebrity lifestyle include quite a bit of jet setting to perform or appear. A singer/songwriter must also find time to write songs. Unfortunately, Taylor writes songs about these breakups leaving the world guessing just who the song was about from among her celebrity former boyfriends.
Her reputation also precedes her. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey jokingly warned Swift to stay away from Michael J. Fox's son during the Golden Globe awards last week. Later, a reporter for New York Magazine's "Vulture" asked Michael J. Fox if he would allow Swift to date his son Sam. He said, "I don’t keep up with it all," he said. "But Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right? What a way to build a career."
Even this isn't so different from other singer/songwriters. Paul Simon wrote "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover." Tammy Wynette sang about her "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." Johnny Cash wrote "Cry, Cry, Cry" about one of his exes. Even Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has written songs about breakups.
Not all of T-Swift's songs are about breaking up. Some are about wanting to get together with someone such as "You Belong With Me." She also wrote "Mary's Song (My My My)" about a couple who had been together since they were children which she sang for Billboard Presents Taylor Swift. "Tim McGraw" is about fond memories of summer romance. (Who hasn't had one of those?)
T-Swift told Vibe magazine. "I love the idea of romance and falling in love. I've never really had a long relationship. So that's something I think about for the future. It's an interesting part of my personality: Part of me just wants to be alone." Perhaps taking some time off from dating is just what T-Swift needs.
