Taylor Swift on Tuesday became the youngest woman in history to be named Billboard Woman of the Year, the magazine announced.

"Taylor has shown the power of good songwriting with music that has transcended genres, and we're thrilled to recognize all of her successes over the past year by honoring her with the Billboard Woman of the Year Award," Bill Werde, Billboard's editorial director said. "At the young age of 21, Taylor has already made a major impact on music and has been an incredible role model for aspiring singers/songwriters and young women everywhere. I look forward to watching her career continue to flourish in the years to come."

Billboard said it will sponsor an event to honor Swift this December.

Swift burst on the music scene in 2008 with her self-titled debut album.

According to statistics compiled by Wikipedia, her first album has sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide.

In 2008, she released “Fearless,” which has sold about 8.7 million copies worldwide.

Last year, she released “Speak now,” which has sold an estimated 5.5 million copies worldwide.

She was won 89 major music awards, including nine Grammy Awards.
