Taylor Swift, in just a few short years has earned quite a few reputations. Is she the pop star princess, man hungry, boy crazy, angry chick songwriter that some say she is? Or, is she the sweet, innocent, beautiful, highly successful singer, songwriter, greeting card and fragrance designer that provides positive role modeling for teens and works with charities? Why can't she be both? But one thing she tells Elle Magazine that she is not, and will not ever do is chase boys, and why would she?
Swift graces the cover of Elle Magazine in the March issue sharing her secrets about dating and success. She says she never chases boys, "They don't like it!" There probably aren't many "boys" out there that would run if 23 year old Taylor Swift was chasing them. Hopefully she isn't planning on chasing any men either.
As for writing songs about breakups and makeups, Swift says that is just what she has always done, write about her own pain and experiences. It started way back in middle school when she just didn't "fit in" and of course she didn't as a talented individual and what some have described as "other-worldly beauty" it would be hard for anyone to fit in. Again, why should she? After all it has served her well with songs like "Teardrops on my Guitar."
“Middle school was what programmed me to be semi-insecure, like, all of the time. I didn’t fit in….I’d stand on the outside of the circle but I was never really in. That’s when I started to realize there’s this thing called rejection.” (Elle Magazine)
She's a writer, not a fighter, sharing that, "I don't think I've ever yelled at an ex-boyfriend. Ever," she told the mag, which features the singer in a yellow checkerboard patterned dress on the cover of its March 2013 issue. "I'm not a yeller. I'm not a fit thrower. If something is done, it's done."
Swift may not be a yeller, but reportedly she's not above taking a stab at sarcasm, using a fake British accent during her performance at the Grammy's, changing the lyrics to sing "I'm sorry, I'm busy opening up the Grammys. We are never getting back together. Like, ever."
Or maybe that's just a self-depreciating shrug, all in good fun, at the constant speculation regarding her love life, because there is no lack thereof. She shares,
"I'm sure if I looked up the latest Google Alerts rumor it would say I'm chasing somebody who doesn't like me as much as I like him - people love that angle on me. They're like 'Oh Taylor, coming on too strong again, chasing boys"
While her experience based songwriting has served her well, she is 23 years old. Maybe a little yelling would get it out of her system and she could write some other type of music showing off her many talents.
