Taylor Swift called out Harry Styles at the VMAs and attacked One Direction. CBS News reports on Aug. 25 that Swift was not happy to see her ex in the audience as she picked up her female video award. She thanked the person who inspired “I Knew You Were Trouble,” and cameras at the MTV Video Music Awards immediately moved to show Harry Styles in the audience.
Swift thanked the person behind her song by stating, “I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is, because I got one of these.” She accepted the VMA for the best female video category.
Taylor Swift was also caught by the cameras at the VMAs as One Direction took the stage and gave a short speech. She could be seen talking to her friend Selena Gomez and said, “Shut the [expletive] up.” Since Harry Styles and the rest of the One Direction band were on stage at this time, her comment has been interpreted as a direct attack on the group. Taylor is now facing the wrath of angry One Direction fans on Twitter and other social media networks as they accuse her of holding a grudge.
Harry Styles and Taylor Swift ended their brief relationship in January. Although she called him out at the VMAs, he had almost no reaction to her comments. Styles has previously mentioned he does not care if Swift writes songs about their relationship or uses him as inspiration for the lyrics.
