Taylor Swift breaks her silence on dating Harry Styles and other guys

Grammy winner Taylor Swift, 23, has now broken her silence about her recent failed relationships and how they have affected her reputation. On March 5, 2013, Vanity Fair magazine (which has Swift on its April 2013 cover) released quotes from the exclusive interview with Swift in that Vanity Fair issue. In the article, a source close to Swift confirmed reports that her romance with One Direction's Harry Styles, 19, ended because she suspected him of cheating on her.

Styles and Swift (who were nicknamed "Haylor" as a couple) publicly dated from mid-November 2012 to the first week in January 2013. However, a source close to Swift confirms in the Vanity Fair interview that Swift and Styles first dated shortly after they met in the spring of 2012, but she broke it off with him when she saw photos of him kissing another woman whom Swift did not name but was described by the source as a "friend" of Swift's.

The "other woman" is presumed to be model Emma Ostilly, whom Styles briefly dated when "X Factor" U.K. boy band One Direction was in tour in New Zealand in April 2012. Paparazzi photos were published of Styles and Ostilly kissing on one of their dates. Ostilly and Styles met in October 2011, when she was an extra in One Direction's "Gotta Be You" music video.

In the Vanity Fair interview, Swift also said that she gave Styles another chance to date her in the autumn of 2012 because he pursued her vigorously, which confirms what I previously reported in this blog. The unnamed source, who is presumably in Swift's camp, said that Styles "wore her down" in his pursuit of her. The source added: "He was all, like, 'You're amazing — I want to be with you. I want to do this.' But the whole time she says she feels like he's looking at every girl."

Paparazzi and tabloids documented Haylor's public displays of affection, including passionate kissing, cuddling, and holding hands while on their jet-set dates, which took place in Los Angeles, New York City, Utah, the British Virgin Islands, London and other cities in England.

When Styles and Swift were in London together in December 2012, the source said Styles "disappeared" and "after that it was like he just didn't want to keep going."

A representative for One Direction told Vanity Fair that the source's stories are "undeniably false."

There have been conflicting reports about who broke up with whom and why the relationship ended. Some of the reports said that Swift broke up with Styles because she suspected him of cheating on her and she was jealous of other women in his life. Other reports said that Styles dumped Swift because she's supposedly asexual and she wasn't meeting his sexual needs.

Styles has also not publicly commented on his relationship with Swift and why it ended, but since the breakup, he has made general compliments about her in interviews. He told Grazia magazine in February 2013 that Swift is "a sweet girl" and "I don't have a bad word to say about her."

Swift has given the impression that she's bitter about the breakup since she has made thinly disguised digs at Styles during her performances at the 2013 Grammy Awards and 2013 Brit Awards.

Swift and One Direction were at the 2013 Brit Awards (in London) and the 2013 NRJ Music Awards (in Cannes, France), but by all accounts, they avoided each other and didn't communicate with each other before, during and after the ceremonies.

Since January 2012, Styles has refused to publicly name anyone he has dated, but when he is asked in interviews what his relationship status is, he says that he is single and available. Ever since he became famous, he has been romantically linked to several women, and the only one he has publicly admitted to dating is "The Xtra Factor" host Caroline Flack, 33, whom he dated from October 2011 to January 2012. Styles said on Twitter that he and Flack broke up by a "mutual decision." Flack and Styles have both said in interviews they they remain in contact and are on good terms with each other.

Styles has been romantically linked to many women since the split from Flack, including Swift, Ostilly, model Cara Delevingne, singer/actress Natalie Imbruglia, model/actress Emily Atack, former "Made in Chelsea" star Caggie Dunlop, photographer Sarah-Louis Colivet and singer Lily Halpern.

In the Vanity Fair interview, Swift says she has dated only two men since 2010, but she didn't name who the men are. However, it's common knowledge that the two men she is referring to are Styles and 18-year-old Conor Kennedy (the eldest son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.), whom she dated from May to October 2012 before she went back to dating Styles again. Swift had very public romances with Styles and Conor Kennedy, as documented by the media.

Swift's previous ex-boyfriends include actor Jake Gyllenhaal (whom she dated in 2010), singer John Mayer (whom she dated off and on in 2009), actor Taylor Lautner (whom she dated in 2009) and singer Joe Jonas (whom she dated in 2008).

The Vanity Fair article comes shortly after Freddy Negrete, a tattoo artist at the Shamrock Social Club tattoo shop in West Hollywood, Calif., where Styles has gotten many tattoos, told the Daily Star Sunday that Styles and Swift didn't love each other and gave him the impression that they were platonic friends when he saw them together on a date. In December 2012, Styles and Swift had a high-profile "date" at Shamrock Social Club, where Swift watched Styles get tattooed. The date made headlines and had numerous photos taken by paparazzi and fans.

An unnamed source also told the Daily Star Sunday that Styles now wants to date Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, 22, who is one of Swift's closest celebrity friends.

There has been much speculation on the Internet and in tabloids that the "Haylor" romance was fabricated for publicity.

After Swift and Styles broke up, Swift got most of the backlash, as she was ridiculed by media pundits and people on the Internet for being "desperate," "unstable" and "boy-crazy." By her own admission, Swifts says in many interviews that she has never had a long-term romance.

Perhaps in an effort to do damage control to her reputation, Swift has been giving interviews to try and dispel the image that she is a desperate man-chaser who jumps from relationship to relationship. In an interview in Elle's March 2013 issue, Swift said, "I don't chase boys." And she told Vanity Fair that not only has she had only two boyfriends since 2010, but she also no longer owns the house that she bought near the Kennedy family's compound in Hyannis Port, Mass.

Swift told Vanity Fair: “People say that about me, that I apparently buy houses near every boy I like — that’s a thing that I apparently do. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real-estate market just to freak you out so you leave me ... If there’s a pregnancy rumor, people will find out it’s not true when you wind up not being pregnant, like nine months from now, and if there’s a house rumor, they’ll find out it’s not true when you are actively not ever spotted at that house.”

Vanity Fair reports that Swift bought the Hyannis Port house shortly after she began dating Conor Kennedy, but a source told Vanity Fair she has since sold the house as a short-term "flip" investment.
