Taylor Swift and Harry Styles managed to be together for the big moment, and they brought in 2013 with a hug and a kiss at midnight, right in the middle of Times Square in New York City. No problem with the cold. No hindrance that thousands of people were kissing all around them. According to Just Jared, Jr. on Jan. 1, the two singers shared a ring-in-the-New-Year kiss.
It almost didn’t happen. First, Harry missed his plane, because he forgot to take his passport from his mom’s house to Heathrow in London. Then he went off to catch Jay-Z and Coldplay at a different concert, leaving Taylor Swift to get ready for her own gig.
Taylor was pretty busy herself, headlining “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013.” She rocked the last two numbers, just before the ball dropped. But after her rousing renditions of “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” Taylor Swift and Harry Styles reconnected in time for the dramatic moment. Obviously, those loser-boyfriend songs do not refer to Harry.
Earlier in the show, Jenny McCarthy hosted a tribute to Dick Clark’s years on “American Bandstand,” with tapes from as far back as 1966. Abba, Diana Ross and the Supremes, and Michael Jackson. Madonna. Dick Clark worked with the best. Count Taylor Swift in with the crew.
