Taylor Smith letter: A 12-year-old girl who died of pneumonia last spring wrote a letter to herself that was not meant to be opened for 10 years. Her parents were eager to see what the letter said and posted it on Facebook. Today reports Jan. 12 that Taylor had no idea her letter would not be read again by her at the end of 10 years, but by her parents less than a year after she passed.

Taylor's parents hoped to inspire others with their daughter's last words. The words within the Taylor Smith letter are touching, covering the vital moments in a young person's life. She congratulates herself for graduating high school and asks herself, “Are you [we] in college?”

The girl asked herself if she had flown on a plane yet and if “Doctor Who” was still airing on TV. She tells herself to stay close to God.

Taylor mentioned her future children in the letter, joking that she is older that the tablet and included a drawing of an iPad for them to view.

Taylor left behind both of her parents and an older brother.

“I just want people to know just what an awesome, awesome person she was,” her father, Tim Smith, said.

“I can’t physically resurrect her, I can’t bring her back, but I’m so grateful people have been inspired by her story," her mother, Mary Ellen Smith, said.

Taylor's father read the last sentence in the Taylor Smith letter that said, “It’s been 10 years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened, good and bad. That’s just how life works, and you have to go with it.”

This letter is both heartwarming and sad at the same time. It is a beautiful thing to picture all of the things Taylor could have had in her future and yet so sad that they will never come to be. As the Taylor Smith letter is read, it is as if you can see everything happening as she wrote it. That is the beauty of something so profound, especially from a 12-year-old girl.
