Taylor Smith won a spot as a contestant in the Miss Arkansas Pageant, the pageant announced March 2 on Twitter.
She was crowned Saturday as Miss University of Arkansas Fort Smith 2013.
If she wins the Miss Arkansas Pageant, she will represent the state at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
Smith expects to graduate from the university this year with a Bachelor of Science degree in middle education, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Her degree emphasis is on math and science.
She formerly attended Arkansas Tech University.
Smith lists herself as a sales associate for LifeWay Christian Resources; and as a former sales associate for Midwest Sporting Goods.
She was third runner-up in last year’s UAFS pageant, where she tied for Miss Congeniality.
Tentative dates for the Miss Arkansas Pageant are July 14-20.
“The Miss Arkansas Pageant has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering young women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence,” pageant officials state on the pageant website. “In 2012, Miss Arkansas contestants won over $88,000 in scholarships and awards.”
