Each week during the high school sports season the Eastern Maine High School Sports Examiner and the Eastern Maine Sports Blog will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations to Marc @ easternmainesportsblog@yahoo.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination.
2012/2013 Winter season- Week 7- January 14th-January 19th
Female
Taylor Pelkey- Stearns- Basketball- Scored 26 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in 57-46 victory over Lee. Pelkey leads the Minutemen in scoring and rebounding this season.
Runner up
Kate Whitney- Machias - Basketball- Scored 31 points in 64-53 victory over Shead. Whitney was coming off a two week concussion recovery.
Other nominations
Jillian Woodward - Orono - Basketball- Scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds including her 600th career rebound in 59-29 victory over Bucksport.
Bre Skolfield- Central- Basketball- Scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in 35-30 victory over Sumner.
Delani Bennett- PCHS- Basketball- Recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds in 40-23 loss to Dexter. Had six points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 48-14 win over Bangor Christian.
Cordelia Stewart - Bangor- Recorded 18 points 14 rebounds in 65-36 victory over Oxford Hills. Scored 12 points in 53-25 victory over Hampden.
Tate Dolley- Machias- Basketball- Scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in 64-53 victory over Shead.
Tianna Harriman- Edward Little- Basketball- Scored 21 points in 56-37 victory over Messalonskee. Scored 19 points in 57-52 victory over Mt. Ararat.
Michaela White- Dexter- Basketball- Scored 12 points and had seven steals in 40-23 victory over PCHS.
Morgan Buker- Skowhegan- Basketball- Scored 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in 59-50 victory over Brunswick.
Taylor Shaw- Nokomis- Basketball- Scored 23 points in 71-50 victory over Leavitt.
